A Note From Your Host
My grandmother hid medicine in the cup. A little something for sleep in the evening tea; something for the belly after a heavy meal; something for the heart on the days nobody named what was wrong. She did not call it herbalism. She called it taking care of people.
This is a weekend to learn what she knew, in the way she knew it: by taste, by touch, by ceremony, in good company. It is Tea School and it is tea ceremony and, on Sunday morning, it is you at a blending station with a scale and a spoon and every botanical in my apothecary, making the tea you have been looking for.

What You Will Learn
Saturday is the Soul of Tea. In one morning you will taste your way through the six pillars of tea as medicine, Beauty, Immunity, Digestion, Sleep, Stress & Calm, and Mindfulness, learning which leaves and herbs serve each one, what the science and folk traditions say, and how to steep them so they actually work. You will leave knowing what to reach for and why.
The afternoon goes deeper. Tea as a writing companion: a cup, a timer, three short writes that surprise you. Tea and relationships: what changes in a room when one person pours for another. Tea and healing: a home apothecary built one jar at a time.
Sunday is your signature. You will formulate, taste, adjust and name your own blend, recipe in grams, yours to make again for the rest of your life. Then the specifics: white, green, oolong, black, pu-erh, tasted side by side, with water, temperature, timing, and the truth about sourcing. We end in a circle, then open the salon and shop at twenty percent off.
The Ceremonies
Both mornings begin with a Magic Hour Tea Ceremony™, the practice I have taught in luxury spas and living rooms around the world: breath, the bowl held to the heart, the trace of the rim, a mindful tasting, and an intention you write down before you speak it. Saturday’s ceremony is for arriving.
Sunday’s is for becoming. Neither requires you to believe anything. They only ask you to drink slowly.

Ojai is a small valley an hour and a half north of Los Angeles that runs east to west, which is why, most evenings, the mountains turn pink for a few minutes and the whole town stops to look. It is orange groves and olive oil and lavender, a main street you can walk end to end, and a long tradition of people coming here to think more clearly. Magic Hour was born here. It is the right place to learn tea.

Zhena Muzyka is the founder of Magic Hour, a master tea blender, certified herbalist and aromatherapist, and the author of Life by the Cup (Simon & Schuster). She founded one of America’s first fair-trade certified tea companies, has taught tea ceremony in luxury spas and gatherings around the world, and blends every Magic Hour tea by hand in Ojai. She will be teaching every session herself.
