Tea Fit For An Empress: The Health Benefits of Oolong.

Posted by Kris Oster on

The Chinese goddess of compassion, Ti Quan Yin, first and foremost represents spiritual sovereignty–she is an empress of the soul. Quan Yin is a deity who lives in the hearts of humanity as a Mother of Mercy, Compassion and Unconditional Love.

The myriad variety of myths surrounding her early life center around her uncompromising compassion for all. The word "compassion" actually means to suffer with; "passion" comes from the Latin pati meaning "to suffer." Quan Yin vowed to remain earthbound until every being (human and non-human) was free from suffering.

Ti Quan Yin Tea is harvested high in the mountains of Anxi, where there is a legend about a farmer who happened upon a dilapidated temple dedicated to Quan Yin in the midst of a bamboo forest. The eyes of the statue of the goddess glowed and moved his heart with the deepest gratitude. He vowed to return each day and restore the temple. The farmer fulfilled his promise and after one year the temple was back to its original glory.

That night he had a dream of Quan Yin coming to him and touching his hand: a green leaf scented as the goddess' symbol, the lotus flower, appeared in the palm of his hand. Upon awakening and telling his dream to his wife, they discovered they both had the same dream! They rushed to the temple and found bushes of this same green leafed plant growing around the temple grounds. When they boiled the leaves and sipped the tea, immediately they were lifted into a realm of pure joy and peace. And, Ti Quan Yin Oolong tea was born.

Magic Hour's Ti Quan Yin Oolong: Tea of Patient Compassion with the enlivening scents of orchid, peach and cherry blossom and hints of lotus & fresh rain, is world famous for its elegant flavor and mood-heightening qualities. It is highly prized for both its refinement and wellness benefits. More than that, the tea connects us to the merciful, compassionate soul of Quan Yin that resides within our own hearts.
