How Much Caffeine is in your Green Tea? - Magic Hour

How Much Caffeine is in your Green Tea?

If you are looking to get into a habit of drinking green tea, you may be wondering whether there is caffeine in your green tea, and if so, how much. Does green tea have caffeine? While the short answer is yes, it is important to understand that in moderate amounts, caffeine is a safe stimulant and can bring with it many benefits.

In this article, we share with you more about the amount of caffeine you can find in green tea as well as the benefits.

Why You Shouldn't Worry About Caffeine in Green Tea

We all know that we should limit our daily caffeine intake to healthy levels. For an adult, the safe limit is typically around 400 mg daily. Depending on your body weight, this may be a little less or more. However, it is not recommended that you consume the 400 mg at one go, instead spacing it out to not more than 200 mg in one serving.

You will be pleased to know that green tea has lower levels of caffeine compared to beverages such as coffee and soda. To make up 200 mg of caffeine, you will need to drink four cups of green tea (8 oz each). As long as you stay within this limit, the caffeine in green tea is unlikely to bring about any negative effects.

How Many Cups of Green Tea Should I Drink Daily?

You can expect to find somewhere between 30 and 50 mg of caffeine in one cup of green tea (8 oz). That means for you to exceed your daily recommended amount, you will need to drink more than 8 cups, which is highly unlikely.

Most people drink just one to two cups of green tea daily, and with this, the amount of caffeine you are consuming remains within highly safe levels.

The Benefits of Caffeine in Green Tea

Consuming a high amount of caffeine can lead to negative health effects, but if you stick to a moderate, healthy level, you can reap the following benefits:

  • Improved alertness and attention span Improved brain functioning and slowing down of cognitive decline
  • Reduced risk of developing Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease
  • Bring down the risk factors of developing skin cancer, breast cancer and prostate cancer
  • … and more!
