Tea 101

Posted by Ashley Davis on

The dried leaves of the Camellia Sinensis, a flowering evergreen plant, are used to make tea, an infusion that many of us love. Originally from Eastern and Southern Asia, tea is also successfully grown in Africa and South America. The four primary categories of tea are green, oolong, black, and black scented, with the majority coming from Japan, Sri Lanka, and India.

What is Tea?

True tea, herbal tea, and flavored tea are the three most common types of tea often seen in stores. The herbs that are used to manufacture these teas set them apart from one another. To further distinguish between various types of tea, there are subcategories inside each of these categories.

The fact that herbal teas and flavored teas are not actually teas surprises a lot of novice tea drinkers. This is because these teas do not include Camellia Sinensis, the scientific name for the tea plant. A tisane is a beverage made by steeping spices, herbs, and flowers in water to make herbal teas and flavored teas.

Tea Farming

Generally speaking, every tea estate and garden employs a unique processing method that is based on elevation, moisture content, and agricultural techniques. Tea can grow from sea level to 6,500 feet above. They need 80 to 150 inches of annual precipitation, high humidity, and fog. It develops more slowly in shaded areas or at higher elevations, resulting in a tea with a stronger flavor, similar to a Darjeeling.

Ways of Packaging Tea

Loose tea

Loose tea is nearly always preferred by connoisseurs since it yields the best cup of tea. The flavor is much sharper when the leaves are smaller. Black teas with large leaves are more nuanced and subtle. You can either save money by purchasing a full loose tea bag and refilling your tins as needed, or you can get your loose tea in a pretty, gift-worthy tin.

Tea sachets

A box of tea sachets may come in a wide range of teas for you to savor or contain just a single flavor. The sachet design produces a really beautiful cup of tea by containing full leaves and allowing better water movement. You do not need to strain as the quantity is measured for you. There are tea sachets of all kinds of flavors available in the market, which offer you maximum value for your money.

Tea bags

For quick tea-making, tea bags work well. The perfect amount of tea for a mug is provided by each bag, and the broken leaves steep more quickly than loose tea. Teabags are convenient, allowing you to enjoy a warm cup of tea wherever you go. You can go for cheaper, bulk purchases of your preferred tea.
