The Beauty of Blue: Exploring the Benefits of Butterfly Peaflower

Posted by Magic Hour Teas on

Blue tea is truly a beauty to behold, and the benefits of Butterfly peaflower, or “Clitoria ternatea", the signature herb that creates each azure cup, are bountiful. Native to Thailand, Butterfly peaflower has been sipped for centuries as an extraordinary beauty enhancer, nootropic and memory booster. If you recently experienced our January Crown Chakra tea blend, Lotus Mind, you enjoyed this special flower firsthand. The flavor on its own is earthy, bright and savory, and we personally love to pair it with pristine white tea buds. Butterfly peaflower is deeply nourishing for the entire body and being, and here's a bit more about why.

The Bounty of the Butterfly

Butterfly peaflower is a South Asian staple which contains an array of benefits for our physiology, including:

  • Congnitive support
  • Increased energy and productivity with a sense of relaxation
  • Digestive support + weight management
  • Flushing out toxins

The flower contain a compound called anthocyanins, which are a type of flavanoid extracted from plants that contain a wealth of beneficial properties, particularly antioxidants! Antioxidants help our bodies fight against free radicals, which can damage healthy cells and cause oxidative stress leading to inflammation, illness and disease. Think of this tea as an immune and beauty booster, nourishing you from the inside out.

These anthocyanins can also support with inflammation as well as conditions like diabetes, cancer and even the prevention of cardiovascular diseases.

Research has shown that Clitoria Turnitea can actually work directly with your neurotransmitters to induce relaxation for both your heart and mind while also improving cognitive function. This can increase energy levels, eliminate stress (bye bye anxiety and depression!) and enhance your overall productivity. It also possesses adaptogenic effects, helping bring our body back into a space of homeostasis, or divine balance.

If you’re running a fever, or feel as if your body is overheating, this herb is wonderful to turn to, as it will support the lowering of your body temperature, by acting as a pain reliever or fever reducer and cooling the blood.

Butterfly peaflower can also help flush out toxins that accumulate in our system, aiding in digestion and digestive health. It does not contain caffeine or carbs, so it is an ideal choice for helping regulate your appetite and to support any weight loss goals or desire for overall slimming.

Because our skin health is directly connected to our gut health, this tea also helps stimulate collagen production, which supports skin elasticity and helps to maintain a youthful glow by eliminating dark spots and clarifying overall tone. And did we mention it can strengthen and nourish your hair as well, from within?! Talk about beauty AND benefits.

The Beauty of Blue

While the beauty of Butterfly peaflower clearly wows on so many levels, one of our absolute favorite ways is through its striking, awe-inspiring color! Adding this flower to any blend creates a brilliant, royal shade, that will delight your senses with every sip. It evokes the colors of our crown and third eye chakras - a brilliant blend of blue and purple hues. Evoking our highest self, this herb is truly a one-of-a-kind experience from blossom to cup.

Here’s a daily ritual you can practice with your new blue go-to...

Steeping instructions: Steep 1 tsp in freshly boiled water for 3-5 minutes. Add lemon to turn the tisane purple and watch the citrus change the pH of your cup! It can absolutely be enjoyed as a beautiful iced tea as well.

As you brew, imagine your consciousness expanding and your heart opening with delicacy and regality. Sip with intention, imagining this bright blue energy radiating from your crown, down to your root, and filling your entire being up with warmth, beauty and joy.
